My progress in term 1 and term 2.

For term one, the topics covered was relatively easy and I understood the concepts well. Needless to say, a week before the test, I started revising hard for my Science and read through the chapters in the textbook five times so as to remember the concepts well. I had also revised my assessment books and worksheets so as to prepare myself better for the test. Presumably as a result for my hard work, I scored 31.5 upon 40 for my test, one of the few who had gotten A1 grades for the test. I was indeed very happy for myself, and hastened to tell my parents about the good news.
However, on term 2, I started to get complacent and even though I knew the concepts well, I did not really put in my effort to revise for my Science test then. I opnly went through my worksheets once and read the textbook twice only. Predictably and inevitably, I scored 28 marks out of 40, an A2 grade. It was evident that I had deproved. The mistakes made on my test paper was due mostly to carelessness as I did not make an effort to check carefully. Nevertheless, I must learn from my mistakes and striove for an a1 grade next term.

Reflections for term 2.

Indeed, just like last term, we had a very enjoyable and interesting Science lessons. We learnt how to take measurement from different instruments such as the vernier calipers (which is accurate to 0.1mm or0.01cm) , the metre rule, the measuring tape and the micrometer screw guage (which is accurate to the nearest 0.01mm or 0.001cm). Next, we proceeded to a topic called the kinetic model 0f matter. In this topic, we learnt about the three states of matter, and each of their specific characteristics. In addition, we also learnt about mass, weight and density, and their SI units. Through mathematical workings and formulaes, we can also derive each of the following given a certain set of data. We had also learnt about elements, compounds and mixtures, and a little on solutions and suspensions. This were currently the most complicated and complex topics I had seen, but we understood the topic after the teachers explained to us.

Summary for Term 1

In Term 1, we had very enriching and meaningful science lessons on the introduction of Science itself. We were introduced to different types of science apparatus and had to learn how to draw precisely and accurately the drawings of each science equipment such as the conical flask and the tripod stand. In addition, we also learnt on the attitudes a scientist must have, such as being able to accept criticism, being open-minded, being curious, being humble, so on and so forth. In the later part of the term, we had tried out experiments using the different apparatus found in the laboratory too. We had also tried experiments using the Bunsen Burner too. It was indeed very interesting in learning how to use it but it should be also handled with care. On the other hand we also learned about the safety precautions that must be taken upon using the laboratory. It is definitely essential and must be applied when we are in the lab ourselves.
